We are very focused on the new common core writing standards in our classroom. One of the three types of writing that is required in the common core is opinion writing. In second grade, the kids have to start out with a main idea by stating their opinion and then back it up with reasons and support. They also need to use linking words to link all of their reasons together. For this prompt, the kids wrote if they think students should have a summer break or not.
