First Grade Reporters and Second Grade Presenters

Our first week of reporters and presenters went wonderfully.  The first graders are reporting on their favorite place in Alpine while the second graders are presenting their ancestry.  The kids are very excited about their heritage and it is fun to learn about all of the different places from which their ancestors came.

Bat and Owl Day

What a wonderful day we had yesterday!  We started off the day by making bat caves.  The first graders made paper mache pumpkins so their bat caves could be saved for next year.  We then enjoyed "Fruit Bat Kabobs."  Thank you to all the parents who supplied the fruit for these.  They were a hit!  The kids absolutely stuffed themselves!!!  As we were eating we noticed that one of our butterflies emerged from its chrysalis so we went outside and released it.  Later in the afternoon we had a lady from an animal rescue teach us about owls with a live Screech Owl and Barn Owl.  I was so proud of the kids because the could answer so many of her questions.  Definitely a fun filled day of learning!

I am so excited about the month of October in Room 2!  Our reading and writing is taking off and we are LOVING the Daily 5.  The kids ask all the time if they can "Read to Self."  Some of our favorite books are Fancy Nancy, Ivy and Bean, and Captain Underpants.  October promises to be a fun filled month of learning about bats and owls and incorporating Halloween across the curriculum!  Love, love, love my sweet group of kiddos!
