Chick Reports

We finished our chick reports today on the life cycle of a chicken and I am oh so proud!!! The first pictures are the report covers and then you can see three fabulously written papers.

 

 

 

I was surprised again today with an amazing show of appreciation. I was showered with all kinds of classroom supplies plus a big, fat Subway gift card! Here is a peek at all of my goodies from the week. I can't even believe how incredibly blessed I am to be teaching this sweet group with the greatest parents ever!!!

Spoiled!!!!

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and boy do I feel appreciated. I have had a fun surprise everyday this week starting with muffins and a Jamba Juice gift card the first day, flowers on Tuesday and apples on Wednesday. But, today came the best surprise of all - an adorable apron with a recipe card from each child on how to make the perfect teacher. Yes, I cried reading them but what's new!!! Everything you can think of was included on these cards - love, kindness, patience, flexibility, hugs and in every increment from 1 teaspoon to 1 billion cups. But there were a few that really made me laugh - 10 cups of tallness, blissful bear hugs, and a sprinkle of craziness. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Timelines

Learning about timelines is second grade social studies standard so we went to work creating our own timelines. The kids brought in pictures from each year of their lives starting with birth. We used paper that was specially created to look like an old filmstrip and I copied their pictures in black and white. Check us out hard at work and stay tuned for the final product!

A Visit from Golidilocks

We had a real chicken visit our class today to help us learn about the life cycle of a chicken. Thanks to the Riley family for sharing Goldilocks with us and for the fresh eggs they brought me.

 

 

I love the looks on their faces!!! Some are delighted while others are not so sure. Also, the eggs in our classroom are 10 days old and starting to actually like chicks. Here is a peek at what they currently look like.

An Orthodontic Visit

Every year, Dr. Cynthia Jackson, an orthodontist here in Alpine, visits the second graders at AES and does an evaluation of each child whose family wishes to participate. We also had a fun demonstration on flossing and brushing. At the end of their visit, they had a drawing to win their mascot. Congratulations to McKaela who won the cat!!!!

19 Days and Counting!!!

We are so excited about the new addition to our classroom - 24 fertile eggs! In 19 days we will have sweet baby chicks in our classroom. (Hopefully!!) As part of our life cycles unit, we will be studying the life cycle of a chicken and learning about how the embryo develops in the egg.

Measurement Fun!

We are currently working on measurement in math. Today we went on a little measurement hunt around the room. The children had the task of finding objects in our room of a variety of lengths in both inches and centimeters.
